- In case you were otherwise occupied on Record Store Day, the powers of YouTube are here to save the day. Luckily, the new single from LA indie rockers Best Coast was uploaded for the world’s unlimited listening pleasure. The beachy “Fear Of My Identity” showcases Bethany Cosentino’s lovely voice and has an instantly addictive chorus. Take a listen to the coming of age number below. [CoS]
- Who would have ever thought that Jack White and Loretta Lynn would go so well together? I love when genres collide, but they’re not always successful. In honor of Record Store Day, White and Third Man Records opened their own Vinyl recording booth that allows musicians to record quick two-minute records. White chose Lynn’s autobiographical song “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and the results are uniquely fantastic. [Stereogum]
- Tegan and Sara have released a simplistic video for melancholy track “I Was A Fool”. The twin sisters serenade a heartbroken woman as she purges any memories of her failed relationship. If the girl looks a bit familiar, that’s because she is portrayed by actress Mae Whitman from Arrested Development. Click HERE to watch the video. [Stereogum]
- Young Galaxy‘s video for “Pretty Boy” spreads a pretty great message. It’s a sweet story about a couple that isn’t classically attractive finding acceptance in a little group of misfits. In today’s conventional world it is important to get as many “dare to be different” type messages out there. Young Galaxy’s new album Ultramarine is out today via Paper Bag Records. [Pitchfork]
- Janelle Monáe has finally graced us with the first single from her upcoming album, The Electric Lady. “Q.U.E.E.N.” has a funky, soul-rocker vibe that makes you want to get up and move. With lyrics like, “even if it makes others uncomfortable I will love who I am,” it could be a new female anthem. [CoS]
