- Not only has he taken his haircut, Jack White will now be re-releasing the first vinyl record ever cut by Elvis Presley himself. A press release from Third Man Records explains: “Utilizing the actual unrestored audio as it currently exists on the sole original copy of ‘My Happiness’ b/w. ‘That’s When Your Heartaches Begin’ Third Man will make a limited facsimile, 10-inch 78rpm disc available on April 18, 2015. From reproducing the typewritten labels (printed on the reverse of extra Prisonaires labels that happened to be laying around Sun Records in July 1953) to being packaged in a plain, nondescript, of-the-era sleeve, the utmost attention to detail has been paid in order to create an object so close to the historic original as to almost be indistinguishable from one other.” [Under the Radar]
- Speaking of reissues, Rhino Records will be reprinting The Replacements‘ entire catalog as an eight-disc box set featuring their seven-album discography, plus 1982’s Stink EP. The reunited rockers will kick-off their “Back By Unpopular Demand” tour (their words, not ours!) on Thursday, April 9th at the Paramount Theatre. - Speaking of comprehensive boxsets (I’m sensing a theme here), Cooking Vinyl has announced a set of all six of the Frank Black And The Catholics albums titled The Complete Recordings. The set will also include a disc of “technical demos,” tracks recorded by Frank on a mono analog tape recorder, like the track you can stream below “How You Went So Far.” The Complete Recordings hits stores April 20th via Cooking Vinyl. - Word on the street is that Caribou killed it at their two Showbox shows earlier this week (we’ll have a full review on the KEXP Blog soon). The Ontario-born, London-based producer/multi-instrumentalist Dan Snaith and band certainly killed it on Last Call with Carson Daly last night.
