- As we reported last month, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ frontwoman Karen O is releasing her solo debut album this year, and today we’ve got the first single to share. Stream the dreamy, underwater video for “Rapt” below, a track off Crush Songs, out September 9th via Julian Casablancas’ label Cult Records. [Spin]
- Meanwhile in Providence, Karen O’s occasional collaborator Beck was joined on stage by Jack White on guitar and Sean Lennon on tambourine during the Newport Folk Festival. - Last week on The Morning Show on KEXP, DJ John Richards paid tribute to the 25th anniversary of the Beastie Boys classic Paul’s Boutique throughout his show. The celebration extended to Manhattan where artist Danielle Mastrion painted a mural of the boys at the street corner immortalized on the album cover. - Timothy Showalter, better known under his recording name Strand Of Oaks, has shared a gory new video for the track “Same Emotions” off his latest, HEAL, out now on Dead Oceans. In the clip, he plays a vampire pimp with a legion of bloodsucking ladies. Strand of Oaks are playing Tuesday, August 26th at the Tractor Tavern. [Stereogum]
