- Almost exactly two years after the release of his last LP, Toro Y Moi will release his third album, Anything In Return, on January 22nd. The 13-track release is Chaz Bundick’s take on making “sincere pop music that’s not all processed and bubblegum.” You can view the album’s very ’90s artwork and tracklisting over at Interview, and get a preview of the album through a live performance of one of the album’s songs, “Rose Quartz”, below.
- While on his current tour of the United States, Morrissey stopped by The Colbert Report to discuss, well, everything that irritates Morrissey. Colbert inquired the legendary singer about the British Royal Family (“The world does not need them.”), being a music legend (“‘Legend’ implies that might be true or it might be false.”), Queen Elizabeth’s recent jubilee (“she’s not my queen”), and any chance of a Smiths reunion (“Not everybody is a fat old slag.”) Colbert teased a surprise appearance from Johnny Marr and discussed the merits of vegetarianism, to which Morrissey remained unimpressed. Morrissey also played a pair of songs, but the real takeaway here is the incredibly awkward interview, which you can watch below.
- Continuing the streak of excellent videos for tracks from his solo debut Blunderbuss, Jack White has released a video for the track “I’m Shakin’” where the man faces off with himself in a battle of the bands between his own backing bands. The Peacocks and The Buzzards back Jack (1) and Jack (2) as they tear through the Dori Oskowitz-directed clip. The track will also be issued on 7″ vinyl with a non-album B-side “Blues on Two Trees” on October 16th.
- With no small thanks to Tom Hansen, the Pixies’ “Here Comes Your Man” has now firmly established itself as a karaoke staple, and last night The National frontman Matt Berninger gave the tune a spin (presumably, after putting a little something in his lemonade.) Watch a video of the video below (where Berninger maintains his typical brooding onstage demeanor) and pray for Justin Vernon to top this at some bar in Wisconsin during his post-Bon Iver period next year.
